Singapore Sets higher standards
for Casino
Standards have been set by the Singapore government, according to which
bids to build a casino resort on the island will be judged. Singapore is
looking to promote tourism with this casino, and therefore, companies will
be judged according to the expected contribution they will make to tourism.
The contribution to tourism carries about a 40 percent influence on the
decision of who will build the casino-resort.
The casino-resorts, one which will be located at Marina Bay and the other on
the resort island of Sentosa, will aim to uphold Singapore's standing as a
prime tourist and business destination. The casino-resorts must also be
modern and unique from other casinos around the world.
Government officials must decide who will build the Marina Bay casino by
March 29, the final day for bidding. Four companies remain in the bid to
build the casino: Genting International PLC, Las Vegas Sands Corp., MGM
Mirage and CapitaLand Ltd. Requests for bidders to build the Sentosa casino
will probably be launched by the end of the year. |
